In daily life, bumps, bruises, cuts, burns, and the need for surgery are not uncommon. While people often worry about the pain from these injuries, many are even more concerned about the scars they may leave behind.

Although current medical technology cannot completely restore an injury to its original state, it can significantly alleviate the pain and itching of scars and help repair their appearance, making them flatter and closer in color to natural skin tone, thereby minimizing the impact on daily life.

In 2017, a consensus on clinical scar prevention and treatment was reached by the expert panel led by Academician Xia Zhaofan. The "China Clinical Scar Prevention and Treatment Expert Consensus" highlighted that there is ample data showing silicone-based products as an effective early intervention for scars. These products can improve both the symptoms and appearance of scars while being well-tolerated by the human body.

So, what is medical silicone? Medical silicone, also known as medical polydimethylsiloxane or medical silicone oil, is a synthetic polymer material whose main chain consists of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms, with side chains typically containing organic groups such as methyl and vinyl. Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, medical silicone is widely used in the medical field.

Key Characteristics of Medical Silicone:

Biocompatibility: It is highly compatible with human tissues, causing no rejection or allergic reactions, making it suitable for use in implants and external medical devices.

Stability: Medical silicone offers outstanding chemical stability, able to withstand extreme temperatures without oxidizing or decomposing, making it adaptable to various medical environments.

Flexibility: The material is soft, elastic, and can be easily molded into various shapes to suit different medical applications.

Breathability: Silicone materials allow gases to pass through, which is a crucial feature for medical products like wound dressings that need to be breathable.

The Scar Removal Mechanism of Medical Silicone:

Moisturization: Medical silicone can form a protective layer over the scar, reducing moisture loss from the scar area and maintaining a moist environment that promotes cell migration and regeneration, thus reducing the chances of scar formation.

Sealing Function: The sealing properties of silicone block external bacteria and contaminants from entering the scar area, reducing infection risk and minimizing friction and irritation, which helps the scar healing process.

Collagen Synthesis Regulation: Since scar formation is associated with excessive collagen deposition, medical silicone can regulate the cytokines in the scar tissue, balancing collagen synthesis and degradation, reducing abnormal collagen buildup and alleviating hypertrophic scarring.

Reducing Inflammation: Silicone material has certain anti-inflammatory effects, helping to suppress the inflammatory response in scar tissue and reduce the release of inflammatory mediators, which in turn decreases scar formation.

Pressure Effect: Silicone-based scar products, such as silicone patches, can apply continuous, even pressure, which helps disperse the collagen fibers in the scar tissue, inhibiting scar hypertrophy and contracture.

Promoting Epidermal Regeneration: Medical silicone helps promote the regeneration of epidermal cells at the scar site, accelerating wound epithelialization and reducing scar formation.

Baoxing Medical Silicone Oil has a wide range of applications in the medical industry. Its unique physical and chemical properties and excellent biocompatibility make it an indispensable part of the medical field. It also has waterproof, dustproof, and antibacterial properties. It is widely used in the manufacturing and maintenance of medical devices, such as surgical instruments, catheters, and syringes. Additionally, it serves as a raw material for skin protection and care products, including treatments for burns, scalds, and scars. After undergoing rigorous biocompatibility testing and aging resistance performance evaluations, it has been certified by FDA and NSF 3H for food-grade standards, meeting pharmaceutical standards to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the products and equipment used.
